I always thought in the back of my mind that the original homers trip could benefit from some tripped out audio. Hey I was right. Would like to see a mix of this and the original.

I seem to recal that during this scene, Barney rips a huge resounding Belch which homer visualizes as a stylized pattern moving across the screen. What happened to that bit?

It was never originally aired with Barney belching, as they cut the scene down for time purposes. The full original scenes were eventually tacked on to the re-runs for added incentive to watch older episodes. Barney's belch is one of many, many such edits.
