Re: Music and Life
It ain't just education and career paths. The whole Western attitude about life being linear needs to be examined, because otherwise, the ultimate goal is death, is it not? Well, it's not news to me, but we're all going to make it to that goal if we try or not so maybe we ought to consider the circle instead of the straight line approach.

Re: Alan Watts: Life and Music
No no no, neither of you have listened to what he said... you're moving from one fallicy to another. You've moved the deferred gratification, the "bag" in the animation, from "success" to enjoyment of life being some abstract event that happens outside of work: "I'll work at a crappy job all week because the weekend will be great!"
In your life you spend more time working than any other activity. More than eating, more than relaxing with friends, more even than sleeping. You spend more time with your work colleagues than you do with your friends and family combined.
We know that work is part of the journey, so make sure you enjoy it! Find something you love and do it! You may not become a millionaire, but was that your aim? And if so, why?
Deferring life "until the weekend", "until the vacation", "until retirement"... they're all just different versions of the bag being dangled in front of us.

Re: Alan Watts: Life and Music
I can't believe I've gone 26 years without hearing of Alan Watts. He's going up there with Carl Sagan and Bill Waterson as one of my favorite people ever.
