Physics Experiment
If a truck goes exactly 100 k/h and a baseball shoots out of the back in the opposite direction at exactly 100 k/h. How fast and how far will the ball go?

Re: Physics Experiment
I gotta say "duh"

It's still cool to see it though.

Oh wow, physics works, who would've thought so?

Re: Physics Experiment
I agree. You pretty much could have substituted the video's shock and awe style for pretty much any trivial thing and it would look like its exciting... for example, imagine a man eating his own dried mucus.

Man, the music and screaming are ridiculous. Did I miss the part where they save the world?

Re: Physics Experiment
I love the way the guy in the truck cabin has a helmet on but the guy out the back doesnt. Maybe all the brain power was used on physics not safety.

Re: Physics Experiment
I think you're missing the point. The end of the video explains it all. Does this experiment answer the question, "What if you're in a spaceship that is going the speed of light and you shine a flashlight out the rear window?" What happens to the light?

Re: Physics Experiment
Better yet, point it to the front.

I say the photons stream from the flashlight's bulb toward the rear of the ship. You don't "see" anything at all that isn't emitting its own light somewhere in fromt of the ship.

Re: Physics Experiment
No. The ball's behavior is owed to wind resistance. In space there is no air, and light would not be affected by it much anyway.

Of course, if you were chasing the truck and they shot that baseball at you, it will still break your windshield.

Re: Physics Experiment
Light always has the same speed regardless of the speed of the observer.

...and in order to travel at the speed of light you would pretty much need to be light, and as light you would have a hard time even understanding the consept of traveling, not because light is stupid, but because light reaches its destination in no time at all. This is because travel time (from the travelers point of view) approaches zero as the speed increases towards the speed of light. This is all due to relativistic effects that I must admit I do not fully understand... but as you can see I have no problems talking about it and presenting it as facts. =)

The speed of light does not always have the same speed.

"New Trivia is Born Into This World"

One minute of dramatic science experiments is worth more than all the "american Idol" garbage and "Reaity-Trash" on TV now.

I'm only 15, but I've taken physics this previous school year and when reading this on the front page i was like, "wait... won't it just fall down?" but of course, I had to watch it to make sure I wasn't stupid.

The Japanese really make it fun though!

Re: Physics Experiment
As someone noted. The guy in the truck wears a fire suit and a helmet (which they make a great deal of) while the guy outside in the back has just civilian garb and doesn't even look like he's belted in.

Racetrack, firesuit, dramatic play. Quite a bit of work for a rather simple experiment. I think if this was played on Mythbusters, they'd keep it simpler, but in the end, they'd find a way to make something explode.

If an accident were to happen, he'd just shoot himself out of the launcher and into the soft clouds above. Hes got everything covered.

Re: Physics Experiment
Why the hell does the guy driving have a helmet, yet the guy in the back without a seatbelt just hang like it is nothing?

Re: Physics Experiment
The Driver is probably a paid professional driver who is required to wear the protective gear or else wouldn't be able to drive. Still, it looks unbalanced, what with the guy in the back wearing just a jump suit.
