Formula Turbokart vs. Ferrari
Formula Turbokart is fast.

To demonstrate the point, it's creators decided that it would be fun to race their turboshaft powered go kart against Italy's finest.

They couldn't get our hands on a Ferrari Enzo, so they decided that a 360 Modena would have to do instead.

Unfortunately that was poorly edited. But it still proves its point =]

Re: Formula Turbokart vs. Ferrari
proves nothing... sorry. And a 360 Modena is an assy Ferrari. Convenient that the Enzo wasn't available albeit thats an assy Ferrari for entirely different reasons.

400 hp pushing 3000 lbs vs

100 hp pushing 220 lbs

duh?

make that track a mile longer and see who tops out. see if the Kart doesn't flip over by then.

Yeah, they could get ahold of a ferrari whatever, but they couldn't get something as simple as a radar gun to show us how fast it was actually going. For all we know the Ferrari was holding back to make the cart look good.

Re: Formula Turbokart vs. Ferrari
Well yes all this proves is that powerful small things reach their top speed before "powerful" large things. This would of been better if it could beat a motorbike.

In all fair-ness
The driver in the Ferrari was a little lazy footed.

"400 hp pushing 3000 lbs (275 torque) vs 100 hp pushing 220 lbs (300 torque)"

Acceleration? Cart. Top speed? Ferrari.

The math is right there.

Re: Formula Turbokart vs. Ferrari
Why your all on the right track, your concept is flawed!!!

The difference in the two comes down to not only power to weight ratio, but one other key element....... Gear ratio!!

The only reason the ferrari would eventually catch the kart is because the cart is a single speed direct drive set up!! It would simply just run out of gear eventually!!! Now give the kart a nice 6 speed transmission like the 360, and the Ferrari would never catch it.

For example my freinds 86 corvette could never catch my 95 mustang in a 1/4 mile race. My mustang makes over 500 h.p., while his vette makes around 295. Theres a big diffrence in power to weight there. But in a 2 mile length of interstate he would leave me in the dust. Again the major differance is gearing. My mustang is geared to attain its top speed within 1/4 of a mile His car takes much longer to reach its top speed, but has a higher top speed due to taller gearing. Now if my mustang had the same gear ratios as his corvette, just as in the case of the kart, he would never catch me.

Re: Formula Turbokart vs. Ferrari
I had a heavy American car with a 6 cylinder engine. Now I have a 4 cylinder Japanese car that's much lighter. It accelerates much faster when taking off than my old American car. But after a few seconds, my old car would pass my new one. So why would this demo be any different?
