Re: Keith Olbermann: You Ceased to be the Pres
I'm a little leery of these Special Comments, though I often agree with their content. It's kind of like watching the left wing version of FoxNews Channel. You know, propaganda. I'll typically give a vote of WHATEVER to it, but this time I gave a five for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the gutless way that Dummy-ya commuted Libbey's sentence via a press release on Monday night.

"It's kind of like watching the left wing version of FoxNews Channel. You know, propaganda."

One very important point to keep in mind -- Mr. Olbermann's commentary is clearly labeled and described as "Special Comments", NOT as unbiased news reporting. Fox News, on the other hand, soaks it's "reporting" in biased commentary with every word it broadcasts while claiming that it's merely reporting the facts. That's a very, very big difference.

Walter Cronkite and many, many other legendary news anchors also offered opinion pieces and commentary, but also make certain that opinion was called opinion, and news was left untainted by personal comments.

Re: Keith Olbermann: You Ceased to be the Pres
Keith seems hellbent on simply making a name for himself. He makes assumptions, rushes to conclusions and overexaggerates, not for literary effect, but to stretch the truth and change facts. The comparison of Watergate to the Libbey incident is a crazy attempt to compare President Bush to the most imfamous and recognizable "evil" Republican in order to woo his audience. Its a terrible bias and to accuse the President of blatantly ignoring the law is not only untrue, but an absurd attempt to proove a point. Its news such as this that makes the American people not ignore the patisanship of a President and insteed separate themselves from him and feel the need to create change. Keith should be debating someone insteed of simply reading a telepromter to us. I have a feeling that papa Bear Bill would tear this guy a new one...what all you leftests say about Bill, he's mainly correct and runs decent programs.

Wow. The way he spoke so precisely, delicately and deliberately direct was so fierce that it sent shivers down my spine.

To the Intransigent President Bush, Know This! That the symbollic pause made by the carrier "Intrepid", as it passed ground zero this past December, is and was the beginning of this nations awakening to your haneous treason.

Not unlike, this great vessal of freedom, you have had this nation sand-bagged with lies for the same duration of time, that the "Intrepid" lay stuck in the sand.

Your tatic to spread fear amonst our nation and allies, in order to suit you agenda, have been countered with the tugsboats of truth, like the words of Olbermann. Did you forget that we are a "Fearless" people, as the "Intrepid" testifies too.

Now that both ship and nation are free of sands and lies, you shall be held accountable for each life lost from the day you landed on a navy carrier, with the lie of victory!

MAY God have mercy on your soul,

because we fucking won't.

Being from the UK I don't know much about American politics. But this guy Olberman seems to know what he's talking about, and that he has no fear in saying what he said. You can really see his determination to get his point across in the way he presented his statement. I don't think i've ever seen someone present themselves so well before, with such "passion". It's not only what you've got to say, it's how you say it aswell. Grand job dear boy.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
Keith Olbermann is a favorite of mine. And although this can be accused of liberal bias, I disagree. He is addressing an issue that is black and white. There is no manipulation or suppression of facts.

I AM ASHAMED...

On Wednesday, I sat watching one of the best fireworks displays I've ever seen in the city of Boston...and I felt ashamed.

I can't help but feel that our country, as of late, is an absolute joke. The wasted lives in Iraq, the horrific healthcare, the blatent profiteering by those in charge...it's enough to make me hang my head.

And like Keith, I sit and marvel at the fact that this President and his administration haven't been challenged with the threat of impeachment. We brought a witch hunt upon Clinton for being unfaithful to his wife, and yet we don't have the guts to do the same against a man who has complete disregard towards the wishes of the people he governs.

Seeing them smile instills in me a seething hatred for all that they stand for. They belong in prison...and that, my friends is not an exaggeration.

I am ashamed...

And I would rather join the rabble, with rifle in hand, against this new form of tyrany than live in this mind numbing, forced form of complacency through fear.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
His speech was confident and beautifully spoken, and I have to agree with what he says. But, what always bugs me about anything said about Iraq is that the Iraqi citizen is left out. He blames the 3 thousand troops killed in Iraq on the president, but the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians that have been killed since the start are not even mentioned in this speech. And when an argument against the president is being made the troop causalities are always more important than the civilian casualties (If they are mentioned at all)

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
Mr. Olbermann needs to read his history. Presidents have been pardoning and granting clemency to people since the beginning of the Republic. Many of those granted pardon have commited much worse than simple purjury. Our former president, Bill Clinton, ADMITTED to comitting purjury himself, yet received no punishment. So I'll chalk this one up to the propaganda column. Lets hear some real news.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
The difference is in the timing. I'm not sure of the numbers, but with a few exceptions, the pardons were for crimes already tried and investigated. The pardon of Libby was preemptive, effectively removing evidence which could later be used in, or cause, an impeachment. In addition, Bush can hardly be considered an impartial source, which is what the President must place himself in, as pointed out by Mr. Olbermann.

In any case, as in so many similar situations, this incident is not the news, or even the focus of the crimes committed. It is simply an ingredient around which the rest will hopefully crystallize. Will Bush be impeached? I doubt it. I just pray that he and his cohorts don't harm this country and the world more than they already have in their remaining time.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
I think the point was that the Bush administration advised Libby to act illegally and then pardoned him of said illegal acts. While Presidents do in fact pardon people all of the time, and often pardon unscrupulous characters, I'm not familiar with any President who pardoned the man he told to break the law, although I'm not terribly familiar with this kind of stuff, and any further information on the subject would be appreciated.

Didn't Olbermann used to be a sportscaster for SportsCenter?

You show me where anyone proves the Administration told Libby to lie about that, and I'll concede your point.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
No one can and that's exactly the problem! There are strong suspicions that Libby was given orders by someone in the administration but they can't prove anything until Libby gives a name. Since he 's always been the good soldier, the last hope was that he'd try to make a deal to cut some of his jail time. By pardonning Libby before he went to jail, before the appeal is even started (which no President in history has done before), George W. Bush prevented that to happen and effectively closed the investigation.

The conflict of interest, and the fact that the leak of a CIA agent name is involved, is what makes the scandal. Not the perjury.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
Except for the fact that nobody was charged with anything in connection with the actual leak. That's because no crime was committed because Valerie P. wasn't undercover. Therefore leaking her name was like telling everyone the united states has nuclear weapons, not a secret. If the leak wasn't a crime, how can there be a scandal unless one was made up.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
Your reasoning is specious. Cheney ordered Libby to mention Plame's name because her husband had the guts to call bullshit on the supposed uranium transaction between Niger and Iraq.

It was retaliation, pure and simple. Cheney can't stand anyone's disagreeing with or challenging him because he is mentally imbalanced, and even psychotic. Bush is a nincompoop who takes orders from his Uncle Dickhead because he is a spineless, degenerate, weak-willed product of generations of inbreeding and brainwashing. And Karl Roverer, I mean Rove, is a wannabe Führer whose balls haven't dropped yet.

Thsoe people don't speak for me, and they don't speak for millions of Americans who are able to think for themselves. You can split hairs and cite technicalities all day long, my friend, but the true scandal is the draining of the treasury, the loss of life (American soldiers and Iraqi cilvilians), the assault on personal freedom, not to mention the Constitution, and the know-nothing, dumbass attitude displayed by this tinpot dictator and his little friends.

Unfortunately, you seem to think that they're all right. Well, you better get ready, mister, because they'll take your money today and sell you down the river tomorrow. What's more, you'll probably deserve it.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
The leak was a crime; that is an undisputed fact. No one would have uttered the word "leak" if her identity wasn't a secret to begin with. No one was charged because they can't find the culprit.

Re: Keith Olbermann: Bush, You Ceased to be the President
It's difficult to obtain evidence for any trial when the gangster at the top has told his operatives to dummy up. And by the way, the correct spelling of the word you employ so lovingly and often is P-E-R-J-U-R-Y, not "purjury".
