The simpsons are so rich that they actually make fun of their own network. I bet you about 25% of foxs profet comes from the simpsons or they are just good sports.

Even bad propaganda is propaganda after all.
And I guess ridiculing the apparent faults of the network makes them appear as "good sports", which is not a bad thing for them, is it?
Coming to the conclusion that they know they stupify the masses (or simply: suck) takes the wind out of the sails of critics in a way.
