IF this idiot were military (and I'm not buying that he was, PBS documentary or not), I'm not buying the story. "Terrorist beard"? I actually had to become a M&C member for the sake of commenting on this!
Pal, if you sold this story to PBS looking for sympathy, it's obvious to anyone with military experience and a brain that you fabricated this crap to glorify yourself. What's worse, then they animated it to try to make it look cool.
Nothing makes war look THAT cool. And trust me, nothing will justify your self-promotion, no matter how you try to slice it.

Realized there was one thing I needed to add to this, only because those two words just hung with me so tightly... 'terrorist beard'. In the event you might actually have had some of this experience, lets have some perspective here... what the duck is a

In the event the fool telling this story is in the military, here's Vana White to give you a clue: facial hair is not a cue to shoot people... just gunfire, moron!
If the mental midget who slipped this info to PBS is REALLY a member of our military, I truly hope he's discharged soon... it's idiots like this that create international incidents.
