It was heartbreaking to see the little girl cry but watching how good the two of them was pretty amazing. Still, the hosts taunting them was awful to watch... not funny like the audience had responded with such laughter.

Very much so. Made me wonder how many more complete jerkfaces are allowed on Japanese TV.
The other side of it is the little girl's problem. I wouldn't be surprised if she's crying because she's afraid of the way her parents treat her when she doesn't succeed at ping-pong.
