Richard Dawkins visits Colorado Springs to discuss the rise of fundamentalist Christianity in the United States where 45 percent of the population believe the universe to be less than 10,000 years old.
He visits the New Life Church, an $18 million worship centre where Pastor Ted Haggard presided over a 14,000 strong congregation.
Haggard was at the time chairman of the National Association of Evangelicals and, according to Dawkins, Haggard said he had a weekly conference call with United States President George W.
Bush.

Re: Richard Dawkins vs Ted Hagard
Haggard tells Dawkins to not be arrogant? I guess he didn't do enough meth that day or hung out with his male prostitute friends. But of course, there is nothing in those ancient scribblings that says a preacher can't do methamphetamine.

Re: Richard Dawkins vs Ted Hagard
Fundamentalist christians are basically bigots towards athiests. They rally against the teaching of evolution and say it should not be taught. Choose us or burn for it. I hope others around me can see this bigotry, it is really not rational thinking.

Re: Richard Dawkins vs Ted Hagard
There is nothing so harmful to our nation than these fundamentalist Christians that somehow are allowed to warp the minds of children and adults, convincing them that somehow a deity is more real than the world around us. It's simply scary how these people are raising others to be ignorant and hateful of others and it's also very depressing. I don't wish to see this country divided over such a stupid thing as a personal feeling or thought, and yet it's true. Ted, you suck, whether you talk to our president or not. I don't say that with the glassy eyes and freaky smile you have got that should label you nuts and put you in a psyche ward with how horrible your words were as you spoke. That's just freaky.

Re: Richard Dawkins vs Ted Hagard
Ted Hagard and the other tele-evangelists represent an American phenomenon which I find repellent and hope never reaches Europe. The cynical money-making organizations -don't call them churches - are crude and brash with a nasty undercurrent of right-wing polemics and not an atom of religious feeling. Hagard is a slimebag and I was pleased to see him caught with his pants down and his bag of meth, denounced by his male prostitute who probably found his anti-gay rhetoric to be the height of hypocrisy!. Hope it teaches a few people not to take these bouffant-haired grinning 'pastors' so seriously but to throw them all in the garbage bin where they belong along with the late and unlamented scumbag Jerry Fallwell. They'd be funny if they weren't laughing all the way to the bank at the gullibility of their poor 'flock' -of sheep?.
