Re: South Park vs Mormonism
Basic factual history of the false prophet Joseph Smith Jr 1820 he claimed to see Jesus in woods (according to his diary) He kept changing this story to god + jesus, just one or other, angels, a angel and combos of these
Jesus told him all churches were abominations
Official says 1838 which is a lie
1823 claimed to See Moroni as shown in cartoon
1826 Got arrested for Glass looking (same scam as you see in this toon seeking treasure)
1828 Joined Methodist Church (violation of 1820 edict)
Joined Presbyterian church (ditto)
1827-1828 - Sydney Rigdon who had copy of Solomon Spauldings Manuscript frequented Smiths Homes according to eye witnesses
1828-1830 dictated the BOM as shown reading pieces of paper. The gold plates were NOT IN HAT. he claimed they were under alot of cloth or hidden out in the woods
1830 Book of mormon published

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
more facts Joseph Smith Jr had at least 34 Polygamist wives and made it a requirement of Mormonism
Brigham Young had around 50
Joseph Smith Jr Joined Free-masons the secret cult rituals and magic underwear the Mormons wear is reminiscent of that.
Joseph Smith Died in a gun Battle. official site (which lies) say he tried to beat them off with a cane.
The Book of Mormon has been altered over 4,000 times
The Doctrines and Covenants over 65,000 times
not simple typos either. Very funny for "The Most perfect Book"
Mormon Jesus had over half a dozen re tellings of his birth
Adam had almost as many from being god, 2 different angels, son of god and more
Mormon Jesus crowning return was to destroy numerous cities, and countless lives, then select a few to preach peace and love to. (they name off city by city he destroys) What a guy.
Let me know if you guys want more :)

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
You sound like you have a lot of anger toward the mormons. Since you aren't citing your sources I'm going to have to assume that you either don't have one or that you know your sources are probably not that credible. I don't know much about mormons myself, but I could really give a shit less about what they did two hundred years ago. The mormons I know are just as normal as anyone else.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
It's not anger, it's just simple ridicule...mormons are great people -every single one of them i have met are very nice, very happy and caring. The only problems is that they believe in Mormonism and those fricking ridiculous lies! So yes, mormons like other religious people seem normal as anyone else -if by anyone else you are talking about any other person that believes in other ancient myths...why not make fun of people who believe stupid things? Unless they ARE retarded or insane...it's not nice -if they are ordinary people well they shouldn't believe in extraordinary lies.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
You know even though I'm not Mormon a lot of the stuff in the Book of Mormon actually made sense. And some of my best friends are Mormon so don't trash them when you dont even live their lives or FULLY know their religion. Atleast they're happy living the way they do. If they're happy with their beliefs then we shouldn't judge them.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
Joseph smith did not have 34 wives.. nor did he make it a requirement. sorry but i am mormon and i think of all people i would know more than you. if you would like to know more you can just ask instead of getting your "facts" from wikipedia where people can copy and paste to change the information.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
hahaha...funny how mormons know so little about their own faith. Joseph smith was a polygamist and so was bringham young...how about you get your facts from an unbiased source? Mormons are amazing people -if everyone had morals like them the world would be much better --they just need to get rid of their outdated belief structure based on lies and ridiculous stories.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
Surprisingly, I've found South Park to be much more factually correct on average than, say, some of the shows on Fox News. Not trying to be funny or politically meaningful or anything - this is really the case.
The tragedy, of course, is that people will say, "Wow, isn't Mormonism foolish" and won't say, "Wow, isn't organized religion foolish."
I'm all for personal religion, that claims to KNOW nothing for sure.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
Of course, you can tell that Matt & Trey are from the west because the episode had real jokes and not overused ones involving outdated polygamy stereotypes.
Re: South Park vs Mormonism
"From the west?" What exactly do you mean by that? Are you stereotyping east coast comedians? Parker and Stone aren't exactly from the west coast. Or are you hating on comedians from the eastern hemisphere?
By: Short-order
Re: South Park vs Mormonism
I guess he simply means that they know their stuff when it comes to criticizing mormon beliefs, which is not offensive towards east-coast comedians, just implying that people with inside-views will make fun in a different way.
I always had a lot of respect for the way Parker & Stone approached social criticism and this episode adds to that. Simply stating the foolishness of people actually believing in such outrageous stories, be it mormons or scientologists is probably the easiest, yet most effective way to ridicule such behaviour.
I was quite shocked to learn that mormons consider native americans as white people who were "punished" by god, thereby ending up with red skin. That's amazingly racist.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
I agree with the poster - I lived 21 years in New England and live in North Idaho today. The west can be different depending on where you are, but there surely are some things common to all of it from maybe the Rocky Mountain communities west. I know many Mormons here. Hi satire is right on, including the fact that they are very pleasant and non-judgmental. Very Donny and Marie Osmond, while at the same time, very culty-kooky.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
What I am saying is that if you live near LDS communities, you have more familiarity with their culture and are less likely to dwell on the polygamy thing. Colorado is right next to Utah. Watch Orgazmo. I have no idea what what people in Eurasia think of Mormonism.
btw, comedy doesn't have a goddam coastal dichotomy like hip-hop did in the 90's.

Re: South Park vs Mormonism
You people are making the mistake of replying to what you believe to be a rational question from someone who isn't a moron. I can only assume from the comment that Short-order doesn't understand that Mormons are concentrated in Utah and so he/she wouldn't know that someone from the west, especially colorado, would have more first-hand experience with Mormons than people from elsewhere in the country.

Matt and Trey have a lot of experience making fun of Mormons, just watch "Orgazmo".
