You are free to speculate about the philosophical and allegorical meaning of 2001.

Re: Kubrick 2001
And here I was thinking that it was just a cool movie about apes and spaceships - my whole perspective on how I view my movies is now forever changed.

Does that mean you'll gouge out the eyes you have and put somebody else's in?

Re: Kubrick 2001
Ok, so I was being an ass back then.
However, Stanley Kubrick was responsible for the movie, not the book. Also, I felt a bit miffed with the opening line "so and so is entitled to whatever interpretation they want of 2001"
Well thank Mr. Kubrick for giving us your permission since you didn't write the book in the 1st place and the movie is simply your interpretation of it!
Yeesh...

Re: Kubrick 2001
While I like Kubrick, I'm always annoyed when it becomes "Stanley Kubrick's 2001." It's not. Arthur C. Clarke wrote the damn thing. Kubrick worked with Clarke to adapt it to screen. I'm sure if anyone actually read the book (or 2010, 2061, or [my last favorite] 3001) they might have a better understanding of the film as well.
