Like nothing I've heard? While very entertaining and I voted accordingly, Ian Anderson was doing this 40 years ago.

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
While Jethro Tull did sing and play at the same time (a very common extended technique for the flute, it's called for in a lot of contemporary literature) I don't think I've ever heard him do anything quite like this. Jethro also didn't really know how to play the flute. He completely made up his own fingerings and techniques. This guy has some traditional training.

Roland Kirk is another flutist (and sax and numerous other instruments) that does some funky stuff, but still, no beatboxing.

Okay, I will give you that this guy is innovative. Different than Anderson, for certain.

No problem on the band's name vs. the lead singer, BTW. I've heard the confusion more times than I have hairs on my head.

Hahah! My bald joke on a guy I don't even know is super funny!

Sorry spammy. My retarded jokes have a desire to live free, no matter how dimly they shine.

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
I felt like I was hyperventilating just watching him play. Ron Burgundy's jazz flute has nothing on him

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
my respect for male flute players just jumped like 5000% actually makes me feel not so ashamed for wanting to play the flute in 5th grade...

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
You know, the whole "boys don't play flute, girls do" thing is a purely American phenom. If you get into Latin America and check out the Bossa and related musics scenes you'll find that the flute is associated much more with masculinity that you might realize.

Also, even today the top ranked orchestral flute players are predominantly men.

Alas, it hit me too. I played in sixth grade. Stopped after getting picked on too much.

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
This is making the rounds everywhere. It would be nice to see an interview with the guy...Information about him is pretty sparse.

I hope he just doesn't let the gimmick run amok and take his musical career with it.

Admittedly, i'm a sucker for musical performances, but this has wow factor because the embedded jazz riffs (almost certainly improvised) are really outstanding.

Re: Beatboxing Flute: Inspector Gadget Remix
I don't know what it was, but this struck me as very meh. Yes, the jazz rifts were alright and the whole "beatbox while playing flute" thing is novel, but it was like listening to two different performances. The gimmick has potential, but he needs to get the two angles working together first, then it'll have real potential. And yeah, flautists don't get enough respect, especially with the "One time at band camp" thing now. I had the pleasure of jamming with a professional jazz flautist once, was awesome.
