Rational Response Squad on Nightline
Brian "Sapient" is an average-looking 30-year-old guy who works out of his basement in Philadelphia.

His job? Well, Brian is taking on God.

I like that. "Rational Response Squad".

It seems that no matter what the subject, there are always people who are misinformed and respond, foaming at the mouth.

RPS to the rescue. BTW, I didn't click the link. I am only commenting on the title.

The obvious spin proves the RRS's point.

I finally found something to like in Filthydelphia.

Too bad this clip focuses on rejecting just Christianity. Spurning Allah, Buddha and a few others ain't a bad start.

Re: Rational Response Squad on Nightline
Ummmm... Ok ill agree with you on Allah but as far as Buddhism goes, Buddha is not worshiped as a God (by the majority of Buddhists). He is seen as a philosopher and unlike Allah, Jesus, Abraham, and whoever else, he never said you have to believe in him or you burn in the fire's of hell for the rest of eternity.

In fact he said, "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. "

Buddha seems like he is the only one who got the message of peace, love, and reason out. Jesus, Allah, and Abraham tried to but failed horribly.

Wait, sorry, I'm not out to promote Buddhism. All I meant to say was denying Buddha would be a denial of logic and reasoning, which is what true Atheists strive for. Just to clear up any misunderstanding.

Boy...atheists on a mission are no better than Christians on a mission. Agnosticism takes the lead!

Re: Rational Response Squad on Nightline
I am bothered when people assume atheists have no faith and no hope. You can be an atheist and have faith. That faith just does not lie with God or some other higher power. Even logic and reason have enough holes and unanswered questions that they take a leap of faith to fully embrace. One does not need to pay homage to a deity to have have hope either. An atheist can have hope that humans will quit their petty religious squabbles and live in harmony, for instance.

That said, I don't agree with what this Rational Response Squad is doing either. Mr. "Sapient" says he is just being "blunt and honest," but I think he is forgetting that so are people like Pat Robertson and Fred Phelps. Perhaps he sees himself as attempting to be a balancing force, but his tactics feel a lot like the indoctrination he himself denounces.

Re: Rational Response Squad on Nightline
The gaps of logic have been proven mathematically. Check out Godel's Incompleteness Theorems. He proved that there are always things are unprovable.

The problem with this whole Internet atheism movement is that it's a reaction to the politicising (and re-re-Awakening) of American religion, which was itself a reaction to other factors. If the RRS's plans all fall together, still won't get to the root of people's need for the order of the new wave of religious Awakening.
