In the 1960s, Dr Peter Witt gave spiders various kinds of drugs and alcohol to observe the effects on their webs.

There was a plain HTML article here about these experiments. I loved how the spiders were pretty unchanged by a lot of rather drastic chemical influence but something as innocuous as caffeine flipped them totally berserk.
