Re: Ray Harryhausen Creature List
He is one of the pioneers of the film world... but I actually found this to a bit of an affirmation of how far we've come really.
People have said things like "Those were the good old days" etc. of Ray's work, but really, it was juddery and poorly matched into the scenes in most cases.
Sure the character designs were great, and the resultant scenes were better than anything they could have done at the time in other ways, but compare those effects to most modern ones and I will take the modern ones.
Not to say that CG isn't wildly overused, but look at something like Jurassic Park, still a landmark film in my book. Such superb use of CG mixed with amazing animatronics to make a film you can just 'believe in'. Hard to believe in Ray's characters.
Still amazing body of work though!
