That was actually a bit of an underwhelming performance. If thats even remotely reflective of his live performances that tells me not to see him live.

I agree - it was kind of boring. I wouldn't say it's typical
I went to see Al at the Minnesota State Fair in 2003 - and laughed so hard it hurt. I found out later that night I just needed to have my appendix removed.
I'm not sure what Al should have done differently to make it suck less - it's a lame song to begin with, and his versions only good because of the parody elements, not because the song was brilliant originally.

That was really impressive, I though... anyone who can a) remember that many words to a song, and b) roll them off that damn fast while c) having them be fine geek references gets an a+ in my book :)
