Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
No longer stuck in two dimensions of the comic pages, a boy and his tiger come to life and deal with the real world.

From Robot Chicken.

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
This animation totally misses the point. Though really great technically, the whole 'Calvin and Hobbes' spirit is either misunderstood or badly reinterpreted.
The work of Bill Waterson is, for me, one of great poetry and deepness (and, of course, a whole lot of fun). This video, however, narrows the angle of the comics by showing an ill-counseling Hobbes and an eventually murderous Calvin.
Calvin is just a day-dreaming boy, don't make him a pre-Columbine kid, this is so narrow-minded!

Wow... have you ever seen Robot Chicken before? They don't exactly try to be true to the source material. I think you kind of missed the point here.

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
All the more reason to skewer it. I love Watterson's work, too, but there's nothing wrong with poking a sacred cow or two.

Having said that, I didn't think it was all that funny.

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
agree, wattersons work is really amazing, maybe even timeless. but I still had a small laugh from this bit. it's not as if it would damage the C&H series.

I agree. it was a really saddening cartoon from my perspective because I love the actual comics.

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
Is it not narrow-minded to rule out the possibility that he was a "pre-Columbine" kid? He did seem to have aspirations to rule the world, after all.

That said, this is a spoof. We know what a spoof is, don't we?

I happen to be a big C&H fan, but I found this parody quite funny. It showed it from a perspective I never really considered...now it makes me wonder.

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
I remember seeing a link to every calvin and hobbes strip ever made on here. I think it got removed but I downloaded them all.

Anyways, I have always loved calvin and hobbes and I still thought this parody was funny. It did take one aspect of the comics to the extremes but it did highlight something I always thought about when reading the comics, which was , what would happen if people started really questioning calvins sanity because of his pet tiger? What would happen when he was older, say... 47, I wouldnt be surprised to see that in a Robot Chicken episode. A middle aged calvin, living with hobbes or something like that.

This parody didnt offend me as a calvin and hobbes fan or anything like that.

come on nerds... seriously
gimme a break dorks... this ess was funny. Robot Chicken makes fun of everyone an' eree-ting. This was clever and funny. Don't confuse it with trying to rip on Calvin & Hobbes. Its not exactly humor at the expense of the comic. It is humor that only works because of the cleverness of the comic. Don't be so quick to judge.

Finally
Finally someone speaks out the truth...

Calvin gets exposed as the lunatic kid he is. This comes pretty close to what I always thought when I was confronted with that unhealthy family constellation...
Certainly the parents are frightened by the fact that their youngster is being electro shock treated. Well, I say: Why not earlier! The effect only lasts so short... maybe more (higher voltage - longer duration) would have helped erasing all of those absurd fantasies...
If only…. ;)

Re: Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes Alive
OK, not excactly what they do in my mind, but I think the creator of this one nows Hobbes as the Imaginairy friend he is to Calvin.

This is just a parody, not the actual thing. So why are you whiners complaining?
