What does your car say about you? Great viral for Greenpeace.

Re: Gas Guzzler
HAHAHA, if only those SUV drivers knew we've been saying this about them for years.
Re: Gas Guzzler
the nice guy vs. his asshole coworkers....what an ironicaly self-incriminating peice of work.

Re: Gas Guzzler
I think that the point is that many people only buy SUV's out of social pressure anyways, as they've been a status symbol for quite a few years.
Re: Gas Guzzler
Since they stopped making station wagons, SUVs have replaced the multiple child transport vehicle. When I would tie my progeny onto the roof rack of my Mazda 626, the cops kept pulling me over for child endangerment and I got tired of sharing a cell w/a burly woman named Marge. (We still keep in touch despite that restraining order...)
Re: Gas Guzzler
They stopped making station wagons? WOW, my 2006 subaru outback must be the last one.
25-30 mpg.
25-30 mpg.
Re: Gas Guzzler
ford explorers are status symbols? i think once everyone starts owning the same thing it ceases to be a status symbol. a farrari 360 spider is a status symbol and that sucker gets 8 mpg. so if its really about status symbols then theyre wouldnt be some gay ford explorer up there

It ceases to be a symbol of high status, maybe, but it becomes a symbol of bare minimum status, which is even worse.

Re: Gas Guzzler
Oh will you tree huggers stop whining.... So what if my truck uses twice as much gas as your car... If you were against it that much, then you wouldnt be driving a car in the first place. So stop being so hypocritical and either do something about it or shut up.

Re: Gas Guzzler
I ride my bike to and from work everyday, as well as all around town, and to the food co-op. I bring a backback shopping and do not use paper or plastic. I have my car for moving equipment to and from gigs, and the occasional long trip. Its not a matter of all or nothing, that's seeing things in black and white, and is faulty. If everyone can curb their oil consunption the world would be a much happier place. Breath deep.
I'm also currently working on a bio-diesel conversion for an 80's mercedes, which should be up and running in the next few months.
It doesn't cost much to care, it costs your soul to remain ignorant.

Re: Gas Guzzler
your decreased consumption means more oil for everyone else to burn. the less you use for your satisfaction equals the more we can use for our satisfaction. thats cool but your really not helping the environment at all

Re: Gas Guzzler
I don't own a car.. and even if I have to own one, it won't be such a gay car like SUV. I see you're the kind of moron who curses "tree huggers" so you don't have to feel guilty about your stupid purchase. The only thing to do about it is to blame you because you don't give a damn about the people in the next 50-100 years that will have to clean your mess. Or thanks to IAmDeK's idea, a nailgun would come handy here...

Re: Gas Guzzler
Typical UK BS.
There's more oil in the Gulf of Mexico than in all of the middle east and Alaska has probably more and would be easier to get to.
The last time I checked, my wife, 4 kids, MIL, and myself wouldn't fit in a Yugo.
If you can afford 15mpg, then get the damn car and everyone else, get a life.

Re: Gas Guzzler
Do your research.
They can't drill for oil in the gulf because they would risk devastating the sea life there.
And you don't have to buy a Yugo if you want to have a more efficient car, so don't be so dramatic.

Re: Gas Guzzler
Being dramatic gets the point across. Kinda like a metaphor. You know what a metaphore is?
I live in Houston which is the oil capital of the US. I have done my research. I've talked to many petrolium engineers and the technology is here for safe drilling in thousands of feet of water.
Show me a vehicle that can actually carry a large number of people and get 25+ mpg and I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Re: Gas Guzzler
Everyone gets so testy on this!! Here's an idea: EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!!!! Just because you own a vehicle, regardless of make or model, does not mean that you don't give a rat's ass about the environment. Everyone has thier reasons for making the decisions they make, including choosing the kind of car they drive. Since I can't burrow into the SUV owner's minds and MAKE them change thier decision to own it, all I can do is change my own lifestyle. My 13 year old car gets 35 miles to the gallon, I moved closer to work and my boyfriend and I walk to the store and reuse our plastic grocery bags.
If the guy next door refuses to at least TRY minimize his carbon footprint (rather than pointing and laughing at us "tree-huggers" at our concern for the world we plan to leave our children), then the least I can do is try just a little bit harder to minimize my own.

The SUV is a 2003 Lexus GX 470, and its EPA Mileage Estimates are 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

Re: Gas Guzzler
Feeellling that sooo sooo constraining presssuuurre from "Those who know Bestest for all". We'd all be better off if all the little bleedies would do the right thing & take one for the team by not procreating! That would clean up their carbon dioxide footprints nicely & then they wouldn't need to be soo bleatingly preachy. Almost as if they loved the smell of their own farts!
