Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA) cosponsored a bill to require the 10 commandments to be posted in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Stephen Colbert asks him why this bill is important, expecially since this is only bill he has ever sponsored.
From the Colbert Report, June 14, 2006.

Re: Steven Colbert vs Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA)
So he's violating the constitution without even bothering to KNOW the "10 decrees" he's officially forcing onto the public? And he opposes anyone who objects? What's wrong with some people.

Well said. As an amusing aside, I present some lucky timing:

Re: Steven Colbert vs Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA)
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Re: Steven Colbert vs Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA)
Which Ten Commandments?
This is actually a good question because the 10 commandments in Exodus differs from the ones in Deuteronomy. Not only that, but Catholics, Jews, and Protestants all number them differently, and Catholics and Protestants word the 10 commandments differently from each other to emphasize different aspects of each commandment.
It's one of the reasons displaying the 10 commandments in a public building would be unconstituational even if you feel that this is a country based upon "Judeo-Christian" principles, or even if you feel that the United States is strictly a "Christian" country.
In order to display them, you have to pick a particular translation and a particular numbering scheme for the commandments. Doing so emphasizes one particular religion over another or even a particular branch of Christianity over another.
That's violating the First Amendment no matter how narrowly you define the establishment clause.

Re: Steven Colbert vs Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA)
Why should the ten commandments be translated? God hand-wrote the first ones on a block of stone in Aramaic (or was it Hebrew?). If God wanted us to have an English translation, then God would have made another set of stones. Let the ten commandments be posted JUST as they were on the original stones.
Wait... Moses smashed those stones on the ground in a fit of rage before slaughtering hundreds of his own people? Oh well, scratch that idea. I guess we'll never know exactly what the ten commandments are supposed to be.

"Thou shalt have no other gods besides me"
Usually, this says "no other gods before me".
I don't know why Wikipedia chose to say "besides" in this portion of their article. The interesting thing is that the usual version implies that there are other gods, and it's only wrong to treat them as more important that the big one.

They lengthened it, added more in the beginning. If you've seen it, see it again
