Elephants Dream is the world's first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use however you please.
The short film was created by the Orange Open Movie Project studio in Amsterdam during 2005/2006, bringing together a diverse team of artists and developers from all over the world.

It had been YouTubed some time ago...but the quality was lousy and I figured I'd wait for the official web release to post it. I just had to hope no one else saw the Youtube version and posted first...

Wow, graphics is amazing. his neck's really, really weird. well i don't get why it called elephants dream. But that was one hell of a peculiar movie!! Dontcha think?

Emo..Emo Why? Emo why, why couldn't you see the beauty of this place? The way it works. How.. how perfect it is.
It almost seems like the movie is talking about itself at this point. They've put so much focus on this being the first movie open source movie being released that they've completely missed whats supposed to make this good.
The movie is in itself very poor. The story is vague, the dialogue is weak there is no development.
It looks very nice, nicely animated, very beautiful, there is no substance behind it though.

Look at the website. All you see is "open source" this "free that" etc..etc.. there is no talk about the movie itself, what the story is about, the characters, etc.
Its just like "Here is where you can get it, its open source, gooo open source!"
"Uh whats it about?"
"we made it using all free software, download it here!"
"but..the movie.. whats the story about?"
"zomg!!! its SOO greate, creative commons!!".
thats all I get from it.

When I was a kid, all I wanted to be was an animator. I was so fascinated with the beauty of it. A beautiful picture is just a part of a good work of art. Without a story, it is just a picture. I watched the whole video and kept thinking - this will make some kind of sense, just keep watching. It never did. Yes, it was gorgous to look at, but empty and pointless.

Quite possibly the stupidest movie I've ever seen, and I've seen Caveman.
The art is quite nice. The animation is slightly jerky at times. The mouths don't match the voices all the time.
From the blurb: "a diverse team of artists and developers" made the movie. Conspicuously absent is "writers."
It's pretty amazing that this could be made with free/OSS tools, but there's not much point to doing it if it's not worth watching.

Are you freaking nuts??? This clip is about open source and what can be done with such. No writers? Lol! My god, it is about the machine and what could be done with it when given the opportunity to grow. Thus the elepahants dream. Nice reference to Caveman though very suiting.

That makes no sense.
If I was to record music using OSS, I should write lyrics about OSS and what it can do? No, because very few people besides the creators will care about that.
I said it's stupider than Caveman - how is that a suiting reference if this movie is good and that movie is bad?
And WTF does "P2P on a DVD good for you homeslice." mean?

When exactly did I say it was good btw?? I said your reference to cavemen was well founded. Not because you compared it as a lesser movie, but for other reasons that would probably be wasted on you.
P2P media on a dvd was directed at the earlier comment made about having downloading this from bittorrent and then putting it on a dvd. It was meant to be sarcastic, as P2P downloaders rarely can do anything more than click download. As this was just a smartass joke that you apparently didn't get the explaination is now there.
The sarcasm was only poking at the previous poster btw, and the comment hopefully was considered only joking.

The only good thing it's got going for it is its looks.
The story is confusing, and almost non-existent. The acting is poorly done, the dialogue is pointless, and the animation is horrible.
I would've been so much more impressed if those things were actually executed well. Overall I'm pretty dissapointed....
