Dragon's Lair: Complete
In 1982, there was an arcade video game known as Dragon's Lair.

A simple joystick and a button to activate the sword.

Here it is from beginning to end.

Nobody knows how many quarters I wasted in this thing before I could regularly beat it.

I wasted a bunch of quarters but never did beat it.

I tried it a few times and decided to stand aside and watch other people play. Watching this brought back many memories.

Try as I might, I never got past the first screen, or have even SEEN past it.

I've waited 15 years for this, and feel like I am a winner, finally.

Let's see: rolls of quarters? 15 years of regret? Wouldn't a coke habit have been more physically rewarding than this game?

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
Probably, but mainly seeing it is helping with overcoming the regret of leaving this game behind to the 80's, defeated.

In never learning how to make that fucking cartoon walk, or keep him alive for more than 20 seconds, I lost a vital part of my video game growth. It was on that day that I walked away defeated from this game, that I and probably a good handful of other young video game fans at the time, realised resignedly that we would NEVER be good enough to make money from playing video games, we would never 'go pro' like Tommy, or Fred Savages little brother from that one movie, 'The Wizard'. Dragon's Lair? More like Lair of broken dreams. Let's hear some support, from the other incompetent nerds that arent me! This game is designed by The Devil, but is animated by Jesus.

I'm with ya, Sherp.

I am an accomplished video game player (*pats self on back*), but could never quite get the hang of this game. Maybe it was a bit too abstract in its controls. I need straightforward goals, such as "eat all the dots" or "get frog to his home".

I did notice a scene or two missing, which I know that even when going through the entire game, you may not see all of them. One scene I'm thinking of is when you ride a large wooden disc down a tunnel, and must jump off when it stops at a ledge.

I am happy to say I had seen someone beat it live, but this video is top notch.

And damn, Princess Daphne is still HOT.

Yup, that was me too. I loved this game, but always got killed right before the dragon.

Great link!

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
Anyone know where I can play this game online?

Also, wasn't there a cartoon based on this?

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
Yes, there was a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon of this, I believe on ABC, as a stand-alone half-hour show.

During that time, there were a bunch of other video-game related toons, including Pac-Man, Pole Position, and an entire block of them on CBS under the title "Saturday Supercade", including Frogger, Pitfall, Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, Kangaroo, and maybe one or two more.

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
I'd be more impressed if this was not made using the DVD version of the game that came out a few years back....

no quarters were needed to make this video, just time and a remote control.

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
Don Bluth was trying to fund a full length animated feature based on "Dragon's Lair." But everything Don Bluth Studios has done over the last two decades (sans "Anastasia") have been critical and financial failures.

Re: Dragon's Lair: Complete
I forgot how entertaining it was listening to Dirk the Daring's grunts, squeals and screams. That's half the game right there.

That bit where he's chasing the pot of gold while being chased by the lizard king still makes me laugh.
