What's the target audience here? The average viewer of family guy is probably that coveted 18-24 year old demographic and they wouldn't know a Better Off Dead reference if it bit them on the butt.
South Park made a reference to the film as well. Maybe the film has more staying power than I thought. I know I love.

i'll have you know i am 17 years old and part of the reason i laughed at that scene when i saw it was because i knew where it came from
