The Weather Channel's program actually uses scientific models to predict these events. These are not scare tactics. In fact, the Weather Channel was to run a show simulating a category 5 hurricane tearing through New Orleans, but then it happened shortly before airing it. Oddly, the predictions were frighteningly accurate.
