Wow. Jimmy Hall got out of the cage to touch her? That's one big girl and he's not such a bright one. Did you see the size of that mouth? One bite and it's over with very few scraps leftover for the herring.

She was VERY friendly - even "cuddled" the boat - did not try to flip it.
He touched her several times over the 45 minutes he was in the water with her.
I think it is about time we let Peter Benchely R.I.P. - that's one man has done more harm to the gobal shark population than anyone else in the history of mankind.
Why do sharks attack surfers or snorkelrs? Because they are acting like food or are in their breeding grounds or where they welp their pups...
I always remember when I am photographing any animal in the water - and I have been doing it since 1968 - that I am the visitor.
Was Jimmy Hall lucky? Yes!!! - to have been that close to a non-agitated Great White that wasn't looking for the pig to which all the blood belonged. No chumming took place.
I have been in caves with hundreds of sharks and they didn't even give me a second look.

Hey, nothing personal. Not like I was calling you MO-ron or anything. You are 100% correct that sharks don't generally attack without reason to believe that it's feeding time. It's been sensationalized by Al Giddings and Jacques Cousteau. But they do operate with the reptilian brain and can appear calm one second and agitated into a feeding mode the next.
Lucky. Yes, a better choice of words. And a nice job of video capture. I had rated the link fairly highly (I can't remember if a 7 or an 8). But I'm thinking that looking at your profile or doing a Dogpile search on your name will show a few of your stills for me to enjoy as well.

Absolutely amazing footage. It's too bad that this small media clip does not do this magnificient creature justice.
