Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
Stewie, from Family Guy, makes his way to the #12 in this homage to Pinball Number Count from Sesame Street, originally sung by The Pointer Sisters.

I pity the people who have never seen The Electric Company before that part of the episode. Because it was a laugh riot for the people who did.

Re: Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
true but it sure was one heck of a catchy tune. if you have comcast on demand, you can still catch it on havoc in the music section.

ahhh... what a classic.

Re: Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
First of all, this segment appeared on Sesame Street, not on Electric Company.

Secondly, what's funny about a direct copy, without changing any of the elements for comedic effect? Sorry, I just don't get it.

Well, what's funny about the Family Guy full stop? I seem to be the only person in the world who thinks it's a complete waste of time.

Re: Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
The element changed was the pinball yes? If you were a child watching that, you may have pictured yourself flying the same course. The 'what if I could do/be that' was a pretty common daydream, I recall. They tapped this daydream- and twisted it into a nightmare for Stewie, as he neither wanted or liked it- and we see it was ironically painful, uncomfortable, and frustrating. Schadenfreude. The writers of this show use this device often; these characters, superimposed onto elements of pop culture find it torture rather than fantasy. Identifying with the character comes naturally, given the context many of us share as memory. However, if you're convinced something isn't funny, nothing anyone says or does will make you laugh about it.

Re: Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
That's right...it was Sesame Street.

I think that some folks might find it amusing because of the nostalgia, because that was about the only thing I got from it. Heck, I wouldn't even say nostalgia...more like simple old familiarity. There's a group of people that know about that "skit" from Sesame Street, and those that are baffled by it and have never laid eyes on it. Those that get the "in joke" are afforded a nonsensical feeling of superiority and solidarity.

Or something.

Re: Family Guy: Pinball Stewie
You're both right!

The funkadelic pinball machine was featured on BOTH "The Electric Company" and "Sesame Street".

Everybody wins!

Wow, I'd forgotten about that pinball video. I must have seen that dozens of times as a kid. The music is still cool!
