It's intentionally done this way to revel in ambiguity. Did she just innocently wipe the table, or was she making sure he couldn't leave? Did she glare because he was acting strange or because he was onto them? Etc. etc.

As one who has lived through serious paranoia of this nature (people are poisioning my food, they are all out to get me, etc.) this is a very accurate take on it. From the bizzare television, to the infection of the clown, its scarily perfect. In the aftermath of this paranoia, all you are left with are uncertainties.
