Sad. This dude has it bad. I can attest to the dangers of serious alcoholism. My father was a serious alcoholic combined with mental issues such as PTSD (landed on Normandy Beach in WW2) and Bi-Polar issues. When I was 6, my mom died and I was in the care of him only, which pretty much means I raised myself. I never wanted for food or shelter, but he was always drunk.

I remember when he made the decision to go cold turkey and thankfully he was successful. He taught me what I was to do when he had a seizure (prevent him from swallowing his tongue, call ambulance, etc). I was maybe 11 at the time. He was successful.

Sadly, he ended up having a stroke about 2 years later which put him in a coma and he died about 4 months after that. His body was just too damaged from the years of alcohol.

It takes a huge toll on a family. I'm proud of him for remaining sober those last 2 years though.
