Bloomin' Gardens
Simple.

Move plants so that you have five in a row of the same in order to clear some space.

Click to pick, then click in a blank patch to replant.

I hate how this is less about skill, and more about "Oh crap, don't grow where I'm making a line!"

Sure there's a large element of chance involved. However, if you're strategic in how you plant your garden, you can keep the straight paths relatively open. That's the key... not to just make the five in a row and pray for the best.

Re: Bloomin' Gardens
After 8 hours playing, I can't top 305. Anyone doing any better?

Strategic placement is teh pie, I agree. But toward the end, screwed is screwed.

My strategy:
- If similar flowers bloom close to each other, and another is in the 'next' queue, move any different ones out of the way to see if more sprout in line.
- Make as many unobstructed 3-in-a-rows and 4-in-a-rows as possible. If one side gets blocked, the other is still open.
- When making a line, move the farthest/potentially blockable flowers first.
- Avoid making diagonal rows if possible, since they have a habit of blocking movement.

Anything I'm missing?

Wow! I think you've gone far further than I thought possible in analyzing this one. ;-)

Some, I thought were common sense but your documenting them is probably helpful to other players. I've not even come close. I think I hit three figures only a couple of times.

Ah. Did I mention that AI was one of my favorite classes in that wretched program called computer science?

One more (probably also obvious-once-you-think-about-it):
- Place flowers so that they can potentially make a line as many ways as possible. Most useful when similar flowers are bunched but not already linear.

When I get to the "I'm screwed" part of the endgame, I move the mouse over the flowers as fast as I can and sing that song from Alice in Wonderland, but unfortunately I only remember the chorus so my neighbor hears: "You can learn a lot of things from the flowers... lalala la la la la la, la." No I haven't been drinking, why do you ask?

Re: Bloomin' Gardens
Damn! I'm glad you really liked this one. It's pretty evident, to me anyway. ;-)

I pretty much submitted it for the same reason and the fact that it was far different in concept than your typical Bejeweled or Breakout variants.

So it wasn't so well received. Ya know what? The sun will rise tomorrow and I'll submit a few more that will hopefully get a higher rating. Ain't gonna kill me.

Re: Bloomin' Gardens
Indeed.

There's plenty of pies in the display case.
