The last thing you'd want to be doing if your stuck in the middle of some frozen land is to run after a huskey. They're sled animals, they love to run.

Looks like bait to me. Seems like a fenced in area would be safer for the dogs and would allow them to run.

Hadn't thought about heavy snow. Guess that goes for the chains, as well, which seem awfully short.
