Laser Gun Noises from Slightly Frozen Lake
The boys and I went to the pond on Saturday, and it had a thin crust of ice over it. When we threw rocks onto the ice, it made the most interesting noise.

I'm thinking there is an air-filled cavity under the surface of the ice. If the pond froze over and and water drained from under the ice and re-froze, creating a natural space between the layers of ice. I dunno.

The ice would collapse. It could never be thick enough to carry its own weight, since the weight increases with thickness.

No idea why it sounds that way, but I remember this all the time as a kid. Before I watched the video I knew what it would be just from reading the title.
