A clown by any other name is still a clown.

Re: Ganguro
I disagree.
Some kogals , ( specifically the ones that do not use too much makeup or at least keep it a bit lowkey ) , dressed very nicely and didn't use much makeup , ect.
Also , if I remember correctly , they didn't like getting confused for Yomanba (sp.)

Not all of them are exactly what I'd call "clowns".

In my opinion the given summary above I've found twice now on this site and somewhere else...is not enough for foreigners ( and maybe some Japanese youth now that the fad is dead ) to truely understand kogals varying looks.
Also , I just realized / remembered that they've been keeping out other details that would be useful for people even slightly interested in this strange fad. For example , did you know that the look was supposedly started by fans of a certain Idol singer imitating her look? Another place that once existed stated that the reason it started - one group of girls wanted to look like "African-Americans" and the other group wanted to look more European. I'm unsure how tanning works into the European wannabe thing but it makes sense that tanning and adding crazy makeup might make one feel closer to Blacks.
( But I'm not saying Black women dress that way today or anything but remember the time of fros? Frosty makeup and big hair and wild style were in then. *wink* I kinda love that look too though anyone wearing it outside of halloween and such would probably get laughed at today. )

There used to be a great site about the differences between kogal , gongal or whatever , yomanba , ect. but the link to it no longer works and I will be surprised if I can find a new site / url to it.
