The Boy With Cat Eyes

Not Working?
A boy has stunned medics with his ability to see in pitch black with eyes that glow in the dark.
Doctors have studied Nong Youhui's amazing eyesight since his dad took him to hospital in Dahua, southern China, concerned over his bright blue eyes.
Dad Ling said: "They told me he would grow out of it and that his eyes would stop glowing and turn black like most Chinese people but they never did."
Medical tests conducted in complete darkness show Youhui can read perfectly without any light and sees as clearly as most people do during the day.

Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
All right folks, it's time to warm up your DNA sequencers...
Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
Too low tech. A mass retroviral gene-splicing pandemic is the best way to pass along one's double helices. It's a page out of Newt's playbook. Bwaahahaha.
Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
Darn, I almost didn't recognize you with your new avatar. Really, you keep changing your outfit. Suspicious ;)
Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
Seriously, this kid needs to start banging chicks daily. We could skip thousands of years of evolution here, people!

Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
What a crock of shit!
Where are the photo's of his "glowing" eyes?
It's similar to all those "magnetic boy" bullshit stories.

Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
That's a good point, they're not glowing, just blue. Might want to ask his mom what she was doing the day the swedish tourists came through town.

Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
Actually, I read an article that explained that the boy was a virgin birth, that God came to her one night, pulled out his Spear Of Destiny, and filled her with his "Holy Spirit."
Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
I agree. I think people are just anomaly-hunting because his eyes are an unusual color. No one seems to be doing any side-by-side comparisons with other children to show that the glowing and the night vision are actually unusual.

Merceneries. Elementals. Necromongers. Shit, I've never been so popular. I should probaly slip these chains and open up a few arteries. But why drive when you can get driven? Free ticket to Crematoria. Thanks Toombs. Got me some business there, named Jack. And once we settle up, I walk away forever. So I'll just wait... all back-of-the-bus for now.

"In the dark, Nong's eyes would emit a kind of blue-green light when shone upon by a flashlight. His eyes were just like cat's eyes"
The caption isn't correct - they don't "glow in the dark", and he can't see in "patch black". He apparently has a genetic mutation that has gifted him with a reflective layer of tissue behind the light sensitive cells in his retina (when we know about it and it's supposed to be there--as in cats' eyes--it's called the tapetum lucidum). I'd love to hear more about this - if that's really what's going on, it'll be incredibly interesting to see whether it's passed on to his children.

Re: The Boy With Cat Eyes
It is possible that we have certain genes that are locked by having no parents that carry an active form.
Take blind cave tetras, for example. There are generally recognized 4 different species of blind cave tetra. When certain species are bred together, their offspring will have their eyesight restored in that single generation.
This is because their blindness was the result of disperate species eventually losing certain genes necessary for eye development. However, by breeding, the genes from the other fish can fill the gaps and thus their children may have fully formed eyes.
