Just a short version of a longer rant we've seen several times here.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
Sorry, spending billions for an image of space is worth just as much to me as fighting in Iraq. Nothing.

You want to improve my life and make me a "dreamer" legalize weed and same-sex marriage, promote atheism and publicly execute some bank CEOs.

(That's what you people around here are into, right?)

What ignites your spark, Bigs? I've assumed you were into the same stuff, considering the amount of time you spend here, but now I'm curious. Say you discovered that your house sits on top of the world's largest gold deposit. What would you do with your billions? Then, same question, but your discovery happens on the same day your doc tells you that you're dying of pancreatic cancer and have about a month to live.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
Is it so impossible to imagine that I like the same stuff AND I think it's fun to mess with you guys? No matter how many times I openly state this you all still bite the fishhook. Why do you guys think I keep coming back?

Now let's see... if I suddenly came into billions I'd probably manufacture a reliable car that wasn't built to intentionally fall apart and was cheap enough for everyone to own. Maybe bring back the electric car.

I don't really need personal stuff, I make plenty of money. A game studio would be fun, too.

If I've got one month to live? That's easy. Quit my job, Relax with my wife and kid and surround myself with friends. I'm not going to finish anything important in a month. Who would want anything else?

Of course you make plenty of money. And you have a trophy wife too, don't you?

Every troll does.

Troll, if I were in your Florsheims, I'd quit. For a month (like you promised) or more.

But you won't. you get a sexual charge out of someone responding to you. You liked it when Mommy put a Band-Aid on your boo-boo, didn't you?

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
Okay troll. Answer this for us. What if deep space studies result in our learning how to produce endless amounts of energy from nuclear fusion? Would that be worth a few billion dollars?

What if the result of our greater knowledge about our physical universe around us results in learning to produce electricity from water? You know, water. Something that we have an almost limitless supply of on our little planet.

An image of space doesn't kill people.

At least you leave open the possibility that you aren't really a sociopath, you just play one on the internet.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
This man speaks true. The things we dreamt of are now the things of reality. To envision; to contemplate; to fantasize of what might be or what what could be, is an endless source to innovation. Without the space race, technology would be a whimper of its present iteration. We used to make shit here in the U.S ... I guess we ran out of ideas.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
He says some good and honest stuff. I can only bitch about that I prefer people to spend money on NASA themselves, instead of funneling it through a wasteful central government. However, we must discuss what NASA means for national defense and I think it does a lot, so I'm not opposed to spending money on NASA that much, depending on what exactly, of course. It's debatable and some political candidates would have different opinions. We need that and NOT political candidates who have their asses on the plate of the war industry.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson: We Stopped Dreaming
So we ought to spend money for space exploration through some method other than a central government? Should we use pixie dust and a magic screwdriver?

You would be amazed what pixie dust and a magic screwdriver can accomplish...
