Re: Jerry Springer The Opera
Just watched the news and aparently there's uproar, because the BBC plan to show it on TV, even though there is so much swearing on it. 3,168 uses of the "F" word and 297 uses of the "C" word. Great publicity! lol
Re: Jerry Springer The Opera
For a better understanding of why Jerry Springer makes a good subject for an opera, listen to the segment about his life before TV on This American Life ( http://207.70.82.73/pages/descriptions/04/258.html ). In short, he was once an idealistic and well-loved public leader. He was even considered a political heir to JFK.

Yeh, but he fell from grace when, as mayor, he paid for sex with a check... d'oh!
What I find interesting is that the British are even more fascinated with the American sleaze factor than we are; I mean, my God, they took the time to pen an opera about it. Or perhaps they have elevated our hayseed cultural leanings into something worthy of art, which only our cousins across the sea can do w/such aplomb. Jer-ree, Jer-re, Jer-ree!
