W_W I think the OP is talking about the shadows against the left wall which only shows one tower.

One can deduce that the wooden canal is in fact flat against the floor and the interior is decreasing only enough so that the water flows away. I would also assume that the canal is built slightly larger the farther away it is from the camera to give the depth illusion created along with the towers.

The 'waterfall' trick imo is a separate illusion. I think he superimposed him pouring water over the wheel and removed him pouring it.

That also explains why the floor is so wet. It covers up that the water is pouring from the back of the canal onto the floor (a distance of a few inches).

All in all a great illusion.
