Not Working?
DEAR CITIZENS OF THE WORLD,
Anonymous can not, and will not stand idly while people are being denied their basic rights and human liberties. Yet, there are still a lot of governments worldwide who fail to even aspire to the standard of freedom that was set by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These governments believe they have the right and privilege to impose upon their own people an 'official' version of 'reality' which isn't in any way tampered by the truths of everyday life under which its citizens are living. Anonymous believes this is an outright crime which can not go unpunished.
The Egyptian people are living under inhumane conditions; being denied their basic rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, and the free access to information. By imposing censorship upon its own people and condemning these freedoms, the Egyptian government has revealed itself to be criminal, and has made itself an enemy of Anonymous.
To the Egyptian Government: Anonymous challenges all those who are involved in censorship. Anonymous wants you to offer free access to uncensored media in your entire country. When you ignore this message, not only will we attack your government websites, Anonymous will also make sure that the international media sees the horrid reality you impose upon your people. Anonymous will not spare anybody who supports this suppression. It is in the hands of the Egyptian government to end this: continue your repression and you will be subject to civil protest - lend an ear to the claim of freedom from your people and the hostilities will cease.
To the Egyptian people: We stand together and united against this oppression. This struggle is not just for you alone, but for the whole of humankind. Citizens can no longer endure their governments abuse. When forced by the threat of oppression, we will be loud as hell - and when the people roar, it will send shivers down the spines of all those who stifle our freedom and take our precious liberties away.
Anonymous are your brothers and sisters, your sons and daughters, your parents and your friends, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or place of birth. Anonymous is you. You will not be denied your right to free speech, free press, free association and your universal right to freely access information, both in real life and through the internet.

For as Khalil Gibran once said: "Life without Freedom is like a body without a soul, and Freedom without Thought is like a confused spirit... Life, Freedom and Thought are three-in-one, and are everlasting and shall never pass away."
We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Expect us.

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
Hmmm...ambivalence. I agree with their assessment of the problem, and I feel their frustration. But, it's hard to trust anyone who asks for power while banging the drum of "freedom." How much evil has been done in the world in the name of "good intentions?" Is this the "Good Guy Terror Network?" By whose standards? How much of this is being coordinated by government(s) in order to stir shit for political gain without the burden of responsibility? Should those that fight against transparency be less transparent than those they oppose? How much trouble are they exposing their "members" to?
Tough questions. Thoughts?

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
Just wait until the Muslim brotherhood and their associates take over. There will be less freedom, more conflict and a slow but deliberate cleansing of coptics in the south.

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
Hey, the Muslim Brotherhood is nice now. I saw it on TV, so it must be true.
Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
That feller on the daily show said so. They're fairly liberal.
Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
Was the Muslim Brotherhood ever about cleansing Christians?
As far as I can tell the organization is extremely 'conservative'. It's a dangerous creature because it has a very strong social function. In a prosperous society (functioning state institutions + decent economy) it wouldn't be able to grow so popular. Hamas is very different, yet it has this broad social dimension in common.
America buys the generals. Welfare for its own corporations being the added benefit.
Islamists buy the poor masses on the cheap.

It's hard to tell who is who in this fight. Once revolution is over, all that will remain, will be the commentary by winner.

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
I support the main idea of this: universal free press. Free press gives people power, and takes power from institutions.
Once the people have free press, they can use it however they see fit, but it's a worthy goal to help them get it.

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
Governments and grassroots movements are fundamentally different. They don't have the same obligations. They do not have comparable power. Government has all sorts of monopolies (on violence ('justice'), on war, on the legislative process etc.). I really don't understand why you bring up the issues you talk about here. This video's about basic freedoms for all people. Torture is not okay. Politically motivated incarceration is not okay. Stifling social movements is not okay. Forms of governance that invariably corrupt state institutions are not okay. What's so hard to understand about this? Who cares whether it's gfgitjth or ttpyyidj who's telling this truth? If I'm fighting a non-violent guerrilla war, I per definition have to keep my movements (and hence identity) concealed. If I were asked the question whether this sort of disruption is a respectable tactic in just such a case as this one, I'd not need a whole lot of brain cells to come up with the right answer.
Maybe I didn't watch this video very attentively. Maybe they were talking about actual terrorism, in which case my arguments would not be sufficient.

Re: Anonymous: Operation Egypt
That would be great if this is just a grassroots movement, but Anonymous, or the "Anonymous ideal," or whatever, has already been credited with attacking companies who don't align with their/our? ideological beliefs (MasterCard and PayPal for not accepting Wikileaks payments). That's real power with real-world consequences. If they/we had wanted to make this a "democratic" attack, there would have been a movement to bombard the sites with legitimate traffic and email expressing outrage (or to stop using MasterCard). That's a democratic, grassroots effort. Using worms and hacks to take down networks is not democratic, and I doubt that any amount of outcry would have stopped the operation, no matter what they/we say in Maxwell's link below.
Look, there's nothing new about hackers or online mischief-making. There's nothing new about exposure through espionage or political blackmail. There's nothing new about revolution. What happens will happen, and it's sure to be interesting. For the better? I don't know. It's akin to the wild west, and the global townsfolk are hoping this new sheriff has a noble moral compass. I think it's most important to make sure that participants are considering as many perspectives as possible before stoking chaos. Sometimes it is necessary to break laws in acts of civil disobedience, but we should all be considering, raising, questioning, and debating the consequences, even as events unfold.
Vive la _________! May our mob mentality be a sane one.

That speech sounds a bit like the one at the end of V for Vendetta.
