This Remarkable Thing
Perhaps this is the 12:48 clip that will make some or even many believers to think outside of their indoctrination.

Beauty in visual and musical backdrop but also magnificent in message.

But I know and I am not alone.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
Not that I am saying this theory is definitely wrong, but the argument that the multiplicity of planets, stars and galaxies is good reason for there to be a multiverse is not at all convincing. That being said, I hope that there is a multiverse, the alternative interpretation of physics is not quite as awesome imo.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
Yeah, at this point there isn't enough evidence to point either way on the whole idea of a multiverse.

Of course what we have been able to learn so far about our own sliver of existence sure kicks ass over any myth that's ever been invented.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
I don't think this is meant as scientific theory, rather that he's inferring something based on past examples. There are pretty interesting arguments on both sides of the multiverse debate, so I found this interesting.

Anyone saying "alternate universe" doesn't understand their second word.

I disagree. I use the term sometimes, and I understand it perfectly.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
After 1:37 where he mentions an explanation for the weakness of gravity, he goes from science to fantasy world and never comes back. Just like any other New Age rambling Internet post, this is just narrated in a slide show of space images.

If people don't have anything to say that advances the scientific discussion in any useful way, I wish they would just shut up because it screws with the signal to noise ratio.

its just supposition. just one fella asking questions. questions are what drives us as people, not answers.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
The greatest hurtle is our own brains. We didn't evolve to think about such astronomically large concepts, nor quantum mechanically small things either. Those areas are not relevant to our survival and so we have neither the sensory organs to detect them without assistance; nor do we truly have the capacity to understand said concepts without thinking of them in a more simple way.

The most impressive demonstration of the limitations of the human mind, in my opinion, is actually very simple. Close your eyes and imagine the quantity seven.

Most likely, you have actually imagined a group of four and a group of three in your head. The capacity to grasp large quantities is not necessary to our survival, so we get around it by grouping and thinking in more simple terms.

The rabbits of Richard Adams' "Watership Down" have words for the numbers one through four and one catch-all for anything greater than that ('hrair').

Of course they're just stupid bunnies.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
Pretty good, though it got a little preachy at around the 10 minute mark.

Religious folk would have a field day with this video, especially the part where the human forms out of sand. "Was yo grand-pappy a pile of sand? I don't think so!!!"

The folks at Sony might have a thing or two to say about it too.

Let's face it, though. This video was better than the entirety of Spiderman 3.

Re: This Remarkable Thing
As someone who was raised as a christian and remained so my entire childhood, I still need to be "reminded," in a sense, that god doesn't exist. When this happens, I remember how beautiful the world in the absence of that premise, and I experience an instant feeling of wonder.

So athiesm is awesome, because it serves this purpose perfectly. I hope they don't take a break.

I love this clip. And "scientific theory" can begin with an idea that may sound completely crazy to some. Even Stephen Hawking has some pretty radical thoughts on the universe and how it works. Love it, love it, love it!
