Re: Positive Thinking
If Barbara's such a big proponent of realism why does she apparently think her actions matter?

Re: Positive Thinking
See 6:02 for your answer.
If our actions didn't matter, why do our rulers spend so much effort trying to control us? We're not powerless unless we believe what we're fed about being powerless.

Re: Positive Thinking
To believe that everyone is going to change their lives and cooperate is just as delusional as believing in the power of positive thinking. In fact, it's the same thing.
Some people will matter, most people won't, the majority are just living day to day and frankly, at least half are too dumb to do anything but eat, sleep and fuck. Almost everyone, including you, will as much impact on history as if they had never existed at all.
Everyone knows this is true but most people don't want to admit that they are truly, absolutely insignificant... EXCEPT to the small number of people that make up their lives. So stop pretending to change the world and make your own life the best it can be.

Re: Positive Thinking
What we do does matter.
The biggest problems in the world, as well as the biggest solutions are nothing more than the aggregate effects of many insignificant actions taken by people we've never heard of.
There's a difference between being unable to account for effect, and being unable to have an effect.

Re: Positive Thinking
Are you saying those ideas are mutually exclusive? How do you figure?

Re: Positive Thinking
positivism is nothing more than a religion dressed up as some kind of way to sell books. the secret of success is to steamroll over people, take what is not yours, and deal with those who object to this theft. the idea of it all is to sell books. that there is the success.

Re: Positive Thinking
I think there's a lot to be said for positive thinking in a broader sense, maybe a more positive outlook? But it shouldn't be used as a gimmick.
I think it's a bit over the top to say it is the downfall of markets, companies etc due to..too much people believing it will change quantum physics.
If a company is built upon people that think obvious, real life problems can be solved by a bit of P.M.A..positive mental attitude ;).. they should probably fail anyway.
I'll rewatch this beyond the half way point and not drunk on scotch and retract everything...maybe. Bonne nuit.
