A woman on C-SPAN, telling us how racist she isn't.... yikes. Keith Olbermann said once that people keep saying "Haven't we done enough for you people?" He was right - and here is concrete proof.

The sad thing is that this woman probably truly believes she's not a racist or saying offensive things. My hat's off to this guy for being nice in the ugly face of ignorance.

I would agree that she's more ignorant than evil. And I found it very interesting that she asserted that "colored people" get "free everything." I'd be curious to know where she gets her information. Curious. But probably not surprised.

The underlying assumptions are probably the usual suspects : poor people are lazy or otherwise undeserving of aid, poverty is not in any way inherent to the socio-economic system, black people get rights and some special treatment because the white people are generous, not because they fought for it and there's no other way for the country to become whole and just and color-blind... She is a racist, and that's fine. Most of us are racist in some form or another. She's just chosen the (far-)right populist variety. She did have about 80 years to figure all this stuff out. I'm suddenly interested in how she managed to remain so ignorant for so long.

You're right, though I didn't add the tag. Actually I didn't write the description either, though I should have changed it. It's a challenge to keep up with some of the more essential Mod duties when I'm working exclusively from my phone. I'm slacking a bit.

I think the point she was trying to make was that people tend to focus on the negatives a lot. And there many advances that minorities have made in the US.

My family is very white and, for the most part, very conservative. You should see the mental hoops they jump through to convience themselves daily that they are victims of "reverse racism".
