Not Working?
Science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke appeared on BBC Horizon in 1964, and made a bizarre prediction of what would be possible at the turn of the 21st century.

Sounds so trite, but it's true. Clarke was a visionary.

Absolutely priceless. Thank you!
In your opinion, are there any current si-fi writers (still alive and writing), that can compare to A. Clarke, Herbert, Zelazny, Philip. K. Dick, Asimov etc?

I doubt it, but that's probably a question better directed at Buckinghamgreen. All I've been reading lately is Cormac McCarthy and non-fiction.

I see you didn't mention Piers Anthony but maybe he is part of the "etc" as well as Larry Niven and Robert Heinlein.
In the same genre, I would recommend Orson Scott Card (the Pastwatch "series", the Ender series). I would include Robert Jordan who created the Wheel of Time series but he has died and someone else is finishing the work for him.
I think most authors currently try to follow the current meme and write a few books related to it and then move on to something else. Also many writers write comparable story lines but they are geared towards pre-teens and teens
