Unmoderated
The Titanic was supposed by some to be 'Unsinkable', but she struck an iceberg on her maiden voyage and over 1,500 people lost their lives.

At the time she was the largest and most luxurious ship afloat and the biggest moveable man-made object yet constructed - now she is a shattered and disintegrating wreck 13,000 ft below the cold waves of the North Atlantic.

Titanic Archive tells the story of the doomed ocean liner through historical documents and period photographs which have been restored and enhanced using the latest graphic techniques.

This website is continually revised and extended.

Re: Titanic Archive
Not very original, but a nice look into the history of the Titanic and its tragic story.

Photographic Excellence
Although this site is only one of many dealing with the Titanic disaster, it's images deserve close examination - they have been extensively reworked and the task has been done so well that many non-expert visitors will just see clear and balanced photographs and never realise the hours of work that must have gone into each of them. Many of the original glass negatives were cracked and shattered by an IRA bomb attack at the H & W Shipyard - hence my admiration for the way that the pictures have been so seamlessly reconstructed.

Better For Having No Whining French Singer
The previous poster mentioned the IRA's contribution to History; yes, it's a fact, lots of the negatives stored at Harland & Wolff were busted up by an explosion. He's right to say that the photographs on this site are incredibly well restored. But the writing deserves credit too. The navigation system is old-fashioned and needs work, but patience is well rewarded because the photographs are great and the texts are intelligent. I've never seen the pictures of bodies being taken from the sea by recovery boats before. Best of all, it's a Titanic site that doesn't mention THAT movie or delay the loading of every page in order to ruin things with a beeping midi version of "My Heart Will Go On".

Gruesome Pictures!
I really learned a few things from this site - like the way that the richer passengers were accorded better treatment than the rabble in Steerage Class even when they were corpses! I never knew the full extent of the body recovery operations either! I liked the fact that the site took told a story and didn't just reel off lists of passengers and crew. It's one of the best personal Titanic sites I've seen, it doesn't compete with the really big online database sites on this theme, but goes for different angles instead.
