Russ Meyer, who helped spawn the "skin flick" with such films as "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" and "Vixen," has died at the age of 82 in his home in the Hollywood Hills from complications of pneumonia.
Meyer's films were considered pornographic in their time but are less shocking by today's standards, with their focus on violence and large-busted women but little graphic sex.
Meyer's work made him rich and earned him critical acclaim.
He was honored at international film festivals, his movies were discussed in college courses, and his work was shown at top museums.

Not all his movies are great, but "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill" is one of my favorite films of all time. Thank you Russ!

Milkandcookies is becoming a damn obituary. I come here to get some entertainment, and all I get is depressed.

What does everyone else think about this? I put up the obits to celebrate people that maybe get overlooked by the mainstream press. But if it's too depressing, I can come up with something else or simply stop listing them.

Re: Russ Meyer: 1922-2004
I don't mind it. It's nice to recognize people who have touched our lives. Russ Meyer might be a little out of the norm for some people, but I think it fits here, considering a lot of what we see on M&C is out of the norm anyway. I think it's a nice celebration of their contribution to the world.

Well put. I will not go nuts with this. I'll try and keep it to people who have offered creative inspiration to our tweaked out till :slice: of the Internet. ;)

This is a pretty crappy link. Isn't there an official Russ Meyer website?

Re: Russ Meyer: 1922-2004
There is, but it's just an online store. It doesn't give any information about Russ Meyer himself.

There's a decent obituary/tribute by Roger Ebert over at the Chicago Sun-Times website:
