Re: Family Guy: Quagmire Speaks His Mind to Brian
I like it how the video is mirrored.
To be honest, I never gave two shits about Brian. Sure, he projected some of what I think. I also think pot should be legalized. I also think religion is for idiots. Before watching the episode I just thought Brian was an unfunny character trying to be a good person. But thanks to Quagmire, I now see Brian as this pseudo-intellectual who if existed as a real human being would embarrass me as a liberal.
I always thought of Brian as perhaps a puppet to explain viewpoints of Seth MacFarlane and the writers of Family Guy. Kinda like how Stan and Kyle are supposed to play the voice of reason in South Park. If this is true, is this clip a harsh self-criticism?

Or yet, let's assume characters such as Brian aren't the puppet for Seth and the writers. In this case, have they adapted frustration and disgust towards the characters and wanted to let it out?
Otherwise, this whole thing could have been made for nothing more than creating conflict within characters to make the show more interesting. I found the clip to be quite awkward.

I think that none of the characters are supposed to be respectable. It's like watching seinfeld, you're not supposed to identify, at least not overtly, with any of the characters. The closest Family guy had to a moral character would have been cleveland, but he's out. I don't hink that you should look deeply in to a show who's principal plot device is "remember that time I did that thing from the 80's" and then a cutaway.

Re: Family Guy: Quagmire Speaks His Mind to Brian
Seth himself once said that he identified himself most with Brian. I wouldn't read too much into this clip. Family Guy is not a very serious show, it has some political standpoints but they don't push them. I figured if they can get a gag out of this they'd do just do it and not mean any message by it.
I just thought that it was funny to see Quagmire as a voice of reason for once and have Brian shot down from his pedestal. Kinda makes the audience take a look at themselves. Functional comedy for once in Family Guy. So perhaps there is something to it, but I don't see MacFarlane pushing or even repeating this gag or message.

It would be fantastic if you could post this with something other than hulu. A lot of people live in other countries and Hulu is an American entity. Can you use a more global service?
