Oct. 23: Rachel Re: Rachel Maddow points out what has been largely overlooked in the discussion of the White House feud with Fox News, that explains why Fox is not news.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
There is a difference between reporting the news and persuading people to have a political opinion with false information. FOX News has been a joke from almost the very start. And, since they were always aware of what they were doing, they started early on warning their viewers, the "lowest common denominator", that sooner or later they would be attacked by the conspiracy of the Left. So they have incorporated the criticism that other real news outlets have of them into their little performance ahead of time.

They know that all you have to do is wrap your lies in an American flag and wave a Bible and the morons will swarm to your door.

And a little crying never hurt either.

Persuading people to have a false opinion with false information ?

Ya mean like Dan Rather's Fake documents ?

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
Actually, Dan Rather used fake documents to provide true information. But unlike Fox News, Rather resigned over the fact that the documents were forgeries. CBS didn't forge those documents, but they sure do have the stink of Rove all over them.

On the other hand, Faux News used those same fake documents to push the idea that Bush was not a derelict member of the Texas Air National Guard. As we all know, if a forged document says one thing, the truth must be 180 degrees opposite of what the document says.

I'd like to see someone resign from Fox over their jaw-dropping breaches of journalistic integrity.

MSNBC's viewer ratings are dropping faster than Obama's approval ratings. They will drop further as Obama pats them on their heads like puppy dogs. In contrast, FOX ratings continue to climb. Kool-aid broadcasters like Olberman and Maddow are simply part of Obama's propaganda network.

How the hell do you know what MSNBC's ratings are? Do you go to a website daily and check them?

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
lol, you must be getting your information from FOX Noise, MSNBC is the second highest network in primetime behind Fox beating CNN and HLN by double digits. Even the repeat showing of Olbermann beats Anderson Cooper 360 by 11 points.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
Classic lame argument. What do ratings have to do with anything? Do high rating make you more accurate? When that jerk Jerry Falwell announced that Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans because of gays and abortions, his ratings soared. Did that make him correct? Of course FOX News' ratings are climbing. They know how to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and there are much more of them then anyone else. That doesnt add any credibility to their statements. It just goes to prove how stupid the public is. Look at the top shows in America at any given time, and you will get a idea as to how smart FOX News watchers are.

Luckily, there are others who can do that for us. http://www.newshounds.us/

And about a dozen others. I know I know, that "proves" the conspiracy, right?

Here is a question for you. There were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq, yet 61 percent of FOX News viewers think there was. Why is that?

Your arguments are childish and nonsensical, and your implication that its US who are being led and not the fans of FOX News is ridiculous. We're not the ones sucked in by the flag waving bible thumpers, thats you guys.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
The fact that The White House was trying to slowly blacklist Fox News from ALL news media events is the real news here.

That it has snow balled from Obama not willing to grant interviews to Fox, to this behavior is a personalisation of a government office, the most powerful one.

At least News Media stepped up and all concerned refused to participate if Fox News' blackballing occured.

Things have gone too far.

Argue all you want about Fox News and it's merits (or lack of) but this behavior from Obama and his staff does not sit well. If Bush had done this to MSNBC or CNN, how would we have reacted?

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
MSNBC and CNN dont do what FOX does.

It wouldnt be the same. This ISNT about the White House being unfair to FOX News, its about FOX News NOT being a real news organization.

Did you even watch the video? Why would you need this explained to you?

When people or organizations behave outside of reasonable limits, they will be treated differently. FOX has acted unreasonable and irresponsibly more times than can be counted. Initiating action towards them isnt part of some evil breakdown of freedoms, its simply enforcing the rules of fair play.

Simply put, FOX cheats. And now they have cheated too much.

Ya but Obama is just giving Fox news more ammunition by black listing them. What's the strategic value in doing this? Retarded people who watch fox news will only interpret this as the president being divisive. Leave them alone! They don't know any better.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
Lame response Nobama.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force was passed by the House by a vote of 420-1 with 10 abstentions on September 14, 2001. The Senate passed the resolution on September 14, 2001 by a score of 92-0-2.

So Obama voted for the war in Afghanistan along with 511 other members in both houses of Congress with only one opposed to it.

Like I said Nobama. Your response was quite lame. Just like the rest of your arguments in this thread.

Wow. You have your head so far up FOX News' ass that you actually believe that this is Obamas war.

This is exactly why I hate FOX News. Because of their approach and their patriotic/christian rhetoric, their sheep will believe anything they say.

Bush started this war remember? Remember the lies about WMD's that FOX was so eager to help spread and maintain long after other news agencies had admitted that they didnt ever really exist? You are genuinely dishonest. Genuinely and intentionally dishonest.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
The video is two-fold. 1)That the White House did overstep the boundary concerning blacklisting Fox News. 2) Fox News was aiding in the production of News. In this case promotion of Glenn Beck's 9/12 Project backing of the tea party protests, and the coverage by their conservative bias anchors of events.

I agree with both. White House did wrong. Fox News acted abhorrently in their promotion and coverage.

But as you said "When people or organizations behave outside of reasonable limits, they will be treated differently." - Obama hasn't given Fox News an interview since he was a candidate, how is that reasonable? He can limit his exposure to them but to remove them completely is unprofessional and unpresidential. He has acted unreasonably and Fox News have used it to their benefit

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
How did the White House do wrong? When you know a network is ONLY out to portray you in a negative fashion and has organized a NATIONWIDE movement to protest EVERYTHING you do, why should they be given the time of day? Rachel is absolutely right. FoxNews is not a news channel. It is an extreme right wing propaganda tool which maybe can pass off as an entertainment channel. That explains the higher ratings than any of the real news channels. You can get the news anywhere. You can't get the "quality" entertainment you get from FoxNews on any of those channels.
[ Reply ] [ Flag ] [ Root ] [ Thread ]
Re: Why FOX News isn't News
Yes, you're right. The White House should only side with news providers that portray it in a positive light. We should all shun those that criticize.

I hope the White House blacklists anyone that disagrees with them. I think they should add all those that point out the true criticisms and false ones onto the same list. Screw it, they believe in different things to us, so who cares about them.

It's so hard for people to spot the conservative bias of Glenn "Crying lunatic" Beck or Sean "I was going to be a priest" Hannity. So much easier to shut them up and ban them. Thankfully we have fair minded people like Maddows, Olbermann and Matthews to guide us through these murky times, they'd never steer us wrong.

Quote from Dana Perino, "towards the end," the Bush administration largely froze out MSNBC.

So Bush DID do this to MSNBC.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
That is in reference to Bush himself personally giving interviews to MSNBC.

And he didnt freeze them out, he just "didn't do a lot" with them. It doesn't refer to the White House itself blacklisting MSNBC at any in-house media event.

Obama hasn't done a Fox News interview since he was a candidate. That is ridiculous. He has let this go on too long and it just looks like a personal vendetta. Is Fox News' bias against him, obvious, sure. But he can reasonably limit his interviews with them, like Bush did with MSNBC and let one of their news anchors like Shepard Smith conduct the interview.

Can you imagine Glenn Beck or Hannity interviewing Obama... what a shambles that would be.

The whole thing has snowballed into something that has favored Fox. Though both sides appear as petty as hell. Schoolyard antics.

Re: Why FOX News isn't News
Quality journalism is a continuum, and truth is a hard thing to measure.

The problems with Fox News are threefold, two in particular set them apart to warrant these particular claims that they are not a "news" network.

1) Opinion - Certainly Maddow and Olberman are as guilty as Fox for their betrayal of informative content to mere hour-long opinion pieces, but rarely is quality factual education acknowledged as the basis for quality news these days. It is unsurprising that Maddow would raise this point to take the OPINION that OPINION is unavoidable in the current state of television news. I personally would have to begrudgingly agree that it is not avoidable in the current state of "news" - and at least for the sake of comparison.

2) Falsehoods and Omission - Here is the key issue in the condemnation of Fox News. The tendency to report falsehoods and omit INCREDIBLY relevant information to a "story" is widely documented. I wont take the time here to support this claim, just look it up. when the New York Times or NPR report inaccurately and are called on it, they (often) make concerted and honest efforts to correct discrepancies for the sake of reputable, honest journalism. Any journalism source that is not committed to this ideal is clearly NOT A NEWS SOURCE. It is ironic but not altogether surprising Maddow did not levy this complaint against Fox.

3) MAKING News - This is the idea Maddow danced around without saying outright. When a "news" source CREATEs events, without acknowledging its own influence and reports it as anything else, this is no longer journalism, but activism. If CNN hosted a cancer awareness fundraiser but did not openly acknowledge it was a CNN event, it would be guilty of the lack of integrity generally outlined in point (2). To repeat, as this point is particularly relevant to the current debates: Making news is not reporting news, it is not journalism, it is activism.

To conclude: Opinion is inescapable, large amounts are bad, but entirely a subjective judgment. Falsehood and relevant omission are unethical, fraudulent and contrary to everything positive one could say about "news". Creating events for a political purpose without open attribution is dishonest and crosses the line into political activism and entertainment spectacle.

You are completely dishonest and frankly, disgusting. People like you are why this country is in the mess it is in because you NEVER address the truth. Obama didn't go after FOX because FOX doesnt agree with him, he went after them because they are liars, much like YOU. Despite all the legitimate points that people have made you maintain your position of the "evil Obama" trying to censor a news organization. FOX isnt a news organization, its a political opposition mechanism which intentionally misrepresents the facts. Perhaps if you could get over your butthurt attitude and simply address the facts, we could all get on with fixing things and improving things. But since there are millions of insecure, ignorant and easily programmed MORONS like you, we are stuck where we are, unable to solve anything. FOX news lies, and its been proven repeatedly. Stop wasting everyone's time with your hollow repetition of Fox News's crap.
