Will a Surge Stop the Violence (in Chicago)?
http://www.airamerica.com
Chicago has been rocked by soaring levels of crime and violence, with one of the highest violent crime rates in the country. Is there an analogy between the war zones of Iraq and the streets of Chicago? Did you know that the reason the surge worked in the Iraq War, significantly lowering the level of violence, was because we gave tons of cash to Iraqi civillians? Now, it's ignorant to think throwing money to kids in Chicago will solve the problem, but opportunity backed by cash would. How about we take some of that bribe money we spend and plan on spending in Iraq and Afghanistan and invest it in opportunities for Chicago and the urban communitites in America paralyzed by bloody violence!

Montel is joined by three guests in a min townhall discussion: Jonathan Lewin, Clearpath commander of the Chicago Police Department's information services division, Tony Ray, executive director of the Forest Park Community Center in Chicago, and Alex Kotlowitz, author of the Carl Sandburg award-winning book, There Are No Children, to discuss what could be done about bringing safety and prosperity back to the streets of Chicago, an example that could be used for all urban communities.
