Linguist and political activist Noam Chomsky criticizes right-wing media outlets, which he describes as delivering a message of paranoia and economic populism comparable to Nazis during the Weimar Republic. "There were people with real grievances," says Chomsky. "The Nazis gave them an answer."

Re: Noam Chomsky Compares Right-Wing Media to Nazi Germany
We, I think, all know that what he says is sorta-kinda true, but making an incredibly weak analogy, admitting that it's a weak analogy and then saying that it's a frightening analogy and that it should make us think... I dunno, seems like he's really getting old. We don't need any nazi's to realize that delusional paranoia isn't the best guide to a better tomorrow.
(The reason why Germany fell to the nazi's is because it's brand-new democratic governments were not allowed to function properly. Germany buckled under the combined pressures of massive reparation payments, crash of Wallstreet and social tensions left unresolved by the novel and impotent demotic rule (among other things). The severe collective punishment in the form of these reperations were a fatal mistake made by the greedy victors of WOI. The current recession is a cakewalk in comparison and the democratic rule thoroughly entrenched. This huge disparity is probably what he's referring to when he admit the weakness in his arguement.)

Re: Noam Chomsky Compares Right-Wing Media to Nazi Germany
Well, phew, at least the US has the biggest and meanest military the world has ever seen and it's getting bigger and meaner now with all the patriotic unemployed. We only got to hope there will be some Nazis out there somewhere in Europe or Asia soon, and all will be well. Gotta have a few years of world war first to fix the economy. Right now, having private Joe and his colleagues help granny across the street and protecting gay protesters from being bruised is no fit occupation for our men (and women) in arms. They need something tangible to sink their teeth into.

Right-wing americans and opponents to the Obama administration have legitimate grievances? Who knew!
