Ted Talks: Joachim De Posada Says, Don't Eat the Marshmallow yet >>
Advertising adds value to a product by changing our perception, rather than the product itself. Rory Sutherland makes the daring assertion that a change in perceived value can be just as satisfying as what we consider real value -- and his conclusion has interesting consequences for how we look at life.

The Shreddies campaign was brilliant. There was a large billboard near my work that asked readers to go to a webpage to vote for which they preferred.
The best thing about the entire campaign was that they played it straight. Everyone knew it was a joke, but because it was in such good fun, wasn't a trick, and the campaign pieces weren't trying to confuse or humiliate anyone, if increased their sales by a metric tonne.
Very good TED talk.
