I have a genetic heart condition and was exploring the possibility of starting my own company here in the US. Turns out due to my condition I would not be able to have health insurance at all on my own and my specialist said she strongly suggested I do not become self employed. Certainly an eye opener when I'm supposed to be living in the "land of opportunity" but to fulfill a dream I'd have to move to another country.

This is a real problem in America. Permitting this kind of racket to distort our lives hampers our potential. And we're all worse off with fewer people starting businesses, or making art, or inventing things, or doing what they would if they could stop following orders once in a while.
