Al Franken Talks Down Angry Mob
About a dozen tea party activists had staked out Al Franken's booth, and confronted him loudly when he arrived.

Within minutes, he'd turned an unruly crowd into a productive conversation on health care.

The discussion went from insurance reform, to the public option, to veterans benefits, to cap and trade. He made a few laugh and even told a touching story that moved a few to tears.

A whole lot of common ground was found.

Hmmm ... even if Franken and I are worlds apart as to solutions on this subject, I commend him for talking honestly to the people, and not condescending or something like that at all.

Re: Al Franken Talks Down Angry Mob
All I know is I don't want that Midwest lady emotionally bobbling her head in the "Tea Party" shirt to be the one who decides whether I get my medical care or not...

Nor do I want the corporations that she's and her compatriots are advocating for to have that power.

I didn't vote for Obama. I don't vote Democrat (or Republican). But based on this video, I'd actually let this (unemotional) former SNL writer give it a try...

W_W, I know we disagree here... :)

p.s. That old lady in the bottom left hand corner needs to be in the cultural meme!

p.p.s. If we're concerned about the influence from Big Pharma, then we should all start voting third party. I do. If enough of us move over...

Re: Al Franken Talks Down Angry Mob
The only problem with said lady is that shes is misinformed about the facts. Franken is correct when he tells her that we need her passion. This is true. It is apathy more than anything else that has brought us to where we are.

That little speech he gave is exactly what needs to happen. An honest, calm, sincere discussion on why it doesn't work, how profit really is causing most of the issues, and how we can tie up the big money monsters.
