This book will be a success, no doubt. However, I don't think that Dr. Dawkins is going to reach the audience that he wants to reach.

Re: Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show on Earth
Ohh Mr. Dawkins. You wrote this book because 40% of Americans don't believe Evolution. Let's face it, the only people who are going to read this are the other 60%.
You simply hold that 40% in such contempt that they'll never be open to this book. "From the author of the God Delusion" will probably scare at least half of them off before they read a page.
And throughout the book you probably take time to slam religious faith as "sentimental, human nonsense." When talking science, we could all do without the offhand snide remarks, just present the contradictory evidence politely and move on.
Let's face it, this is a book about another reason why Dawkins hates religion and why it is wrong. It will tackle it's subject in a broad manner and there are far better books about the science of evolution to reach out to those who are ignorant of it.
Take a note from Carl Sagan, Dawkins, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Also Dawkins continues to push his own theories concerning "the selfish gene" and "memetics" without dealing with any contrary evidence (his ego taking hold). Not good science. If you're looking for a introductory book on evolution read "What Evolution Is by Ernst Mayr", "Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea by Carl Zimmer" or "The Dragons of Eden by Carl Sagan".

So you haven't read the book?
I love how almost all your criticism boils down to Dawkins having a bunch of character defects.
I will stop short of trying to defend mr. Dawkins on that front and admit that, yes, he is not exactly the most likeable person in the world (=huge understatement).

Re: Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show on Earth
heh, yeah only read extracts but come on, it's Dawkins, there are some expectations of what's in store.
And the criticism is more levelled at the way in which he writes and that this book really isn't for that 40% as stated. He's passionate and personal about what he writes and is succinct at explaining the subject matter. But the flaw is that his bias and opinion has a tendency to erode and distort his arguments which would have more gravity to a broader audience without them.

Re: Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show on Earth
According to his website, this book will not focus on bashing religion since he's already done that. Supposedly, this book is just the facts.

Re: Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show on Earth
Nah, even in the extracts he takes a few swings. The "sentimental, human nonsense" quote is from the book.
It'll still be worth reading, just some retreading of old material and opinion involved.
